WIKIPEDIA: Phillips Brooks (December 13, 1835 – January 23, 1893) was a prominent American Episcopal clergyman, author, and one of the most popular preachers of the Gilded Age, best known for writing the lyrics to the Christmas hymn "O Little Town of Bethlehem." He served as the rector of Trinity Church in Boston from 1869 to 1891, where he championed the cause of emancipation and oversaw the construction of the architectural masterpiece known as Trinity Church, designed by Henry Hobson Richardson.
