Batouala is a 1921 novel by French writer René Maran, which follows an African chieftain named Batouala over a few days of his life. The novel won the Prix Goncourt, one of France's highest literary awards, making Maran the first black author to win that honor.

 

Signed by the illustrator, Limited Edition #706 of 1500 copies made. Black & white and color illustrations. Tiny top edge tear and some rub marks (sun, mild soil and few scratch marks). Secure binding with clean pages. About 13-1/2 x 8-3/4 with 117 numbered pages. This book was purchased from an estate that was related to General George S. Patton, Jr.
