Scarce religious book with bookplate at inside cover pastedown "Private Library OF GEORGE M. GAGE. No. 337" His fathers name (in fancy gift cursive) is on the opposite front free endpaper Dr. Lander Gage from his friend (s?) Dau.(t?) Farnham. From the web: George Manlius Gage, son of Dr. Leander Gage and Ann Brewer Sargent, was born in Waterford, Maine on Aug. 22, 1834. He married with ELIZABETH S. WEBBER on Aug. 15, 1861 in North Bridgton, Maine. At that time he was a resident of Beverly, Mass., she resided in Maine. He was principal of the State Normal School, and afterward the same in Minnesota. In September 1872 he became superintendent of schools for St. Paul.
Leander Gage, son of Amos & Louis Gage, was born in Bethel, Oxford, Co., Maine on Sept. 20, 1791; married in 1820 in Waterford, Maine with ANN BREWER SARGENT. He began practice in Waterford about 1817, built and occupied the stand now owned by Mr. Parker, was a man of commanding influence, and had a wide practice and reputation, died 1842.
