Abacaxi is a trio from Switzerland consisting of two keyboard players and a guitarist. Damacine crosses effortlessly back and forth between new age and light jazz, opening with a classically tinged piece of synthesizer space music then segueing into a breezy rhythmic tune, complete with accordian, that would not sound out of place in a Parisian sidewalk cafe. The rest of the album mixes silky smooth jazz -- featuring some sax with the keyboards and elegant acoustic guitar -- with poignant piano and synthesizer balladry. Produced by Paul Sutin, this is an album of quiet charm, romantic and delightfully European.
