DUST ON THE KING'S HIGHWAY (Catholic Literary Foundation Edition). By Helen C. White, The MacMillan Co., New York, 1947.
Historical Fiction Novel - Religious
This is a fictionalized account of the last ten years in the life and missionary career of Father Francisco Garcés, 1771-1781. Father Garcés was pastor of the O'odham community at San Xavier del Bac during most of that time and he traveled extensively through O'odham country.
This novel is the moving account of Father Garcés who, in the Seventeen Seventies, carried the word of God to the Indian tribes living in the wild and little-traveled lands belonging to Spain in the New World. The father's great dream is to have a church built on the majestic hill overlooking the mighty rivers in the land of the Yumas.
