A theatrical play with considerable symbolism, it was the basis for the 1919 Lasky-produced black-and-white silent film starring Bebe Daniels, who purportedly took a significant pay cut to play the part.
Dark green cover with gilt title and a blind-stamped cover. Owner's name on the front endpaper. Mild cover wear with a few inner binding cracks (lightly shaken). A few pencil notations have been erased except for the page after the last page (start of the book ads), and it has the names of the actors in pencil at the margin. About 7-3/4 x 5-1/4 with 188 pp. plus ads (four pages). photographic illustrations. Scarce.
