Called the "fish evangelist" of the Roaring Twenties, Mrs. Evelene Spencer worked for the Bureau of Fisheries, a predecessor agency to today's U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, for about a dozen years. The Portland, Oregon, woman co-authored with Professor John Cobb of the University of Washington's College of Fisheries the 1921 blockbuster with the title, "Fish Cookery/Six Hundred Recipes for the Preparation of Fish, Shellfish and Other Aquatic Animals, Including Fish Soups, Salads and Entrees, with Accompanying Sauces, Seasonings, Dressings and Forcemeats." The recipe book seems to have made it into nearly every kitchen and is still commonly cited in scholarly papers and popular bestsellers."

Light brown cover with a dark brown title. A mild gouge mark near the bottom cover. Secure binding with clean pages and some foxing at the very rear page edges. Someone left a beautiful dried plant near the center. 364 pages with introduction, table of contents, and index. Hardcover book.
