1798 ENORMOUS Basel Switzerland German BIBLE Martin Luther Thurneysen Biblia A rare, late 18th-century Martin Luther German Holy Bible printed in Basel. Luther Bibles have always maintained their popularity throughout the centuries both in German and non-German speaking areas. This Basel edition was published by Thurneysen and features both the Old and New Testaments along with the Apocryphal books. Published in 1798, this is a reissue of the original 1736 Thurneysen edition.
 
Leather German Bible dated 1798 and at the front endpaper, it states that it has been in the family since 1759 so it must be older?  Full calf with five raised bands on the spine, metal opening clasps, and all edges red. About 15-1/2 x 10 inches and it weighs 9 lbs and 8 ounces. Illustrated. I did not see any other family information written inside. Some Illustrations.
