Benjamin Harrison (1833-1901) was an American politician and lawyer who served as the 23rd president of the United States from 1889 to 1893. He was a grandson of the ninth president, William Henry Harrison, creating the only grandfather–grandson duo to have held the office. On January 23, 1865, President Lincoln nominated Harrison to the grade of brevet brigadier General of volunteers (Civil War).
Levi Parsons Morton (1824-1920) was the 22nd vice president of the United States from 1889 to 1893. He also served as United States ambassador to France, as a US representative from New York, and as the 31st governor of New York.
