This book is a historical fiction account of the settlement of the Skagit River Valley in Washington Territory during 1874-1884. Centered around ancient lore of the Scat Scats (Skagit Tribe) and their spiritual mountain Penalomah, known today as Sauk Mountain. Young Hugh Calley, sorrowed by the sudden death of his father, & subsequent estrangement of his only sister, left post-civil war Richmond, making his way to the Puget Sound in search of his only remaining kin, Uncle Ash Hobbs, somewhere in the Skagit Valley. He ventured to the Pacific Northwest seeking his future, and in the wilderness of Washington Territory, he found his destiny.
