SONG OF YEARS - ALDRICH
A novel by American author Bess Streeter Aldrich (1881–1954), originally published in 1939 and capturing the period in Iowa of Indian scares and county-seat wars, as well as the political climate preceding the Civil War in the 1850s. The story is about Wayne Lockwood, who moved from New England to the still young and wild Iowa in in 1851. After claiming a quarter-section about a hundred miles west of Dubuque, he quickly came to appreciate widely scattered neighbors like Jeremiah Martin and his seven daughters, who would have chased the gloom from any bachelor's heart.
