The Wandering Heir was suggested by the real-life events of the Tichborne Case, and Reade also wrote a version of the book for the stage. Reade claimed that worldwide sales of the novel, including pirated editions, exceeded 500,000 copies.
Charles Reade (1814-1884) was an English novelist and dramatist, best known for The Cloister and the Hearth.
Green cover with gilt title & chocolate endpapers. Light to moderate rubbed cover with few tiny edge/corner tip frays. Front inner hinge at endpaper gutter paper just lightly rubbed & barely showing strings. Title page & one frontis illustration 2/3's loose otherwise secure with clean pages. About 7-1/4 x 4-1/2. Scarce!
