Book contains mostly interesting recipes, about cooking, treatment and storage of meats and vegetables, home remedies, soap making, but also contains advice for young housewives, advice on parenting, advice on how to raise daughters (which is basically training them how to be wives & mothers), being thrifty, and tips for housekeepers, "If you are about to furnish a house, do not spend all your money.... Begin humbly." From 1832-1845, this popular book went through thirty-two editions.
