Allan J. Pinkerton (1819–1884) was a Scottish American detective and spy, best known for creating the Pinkerton National Detective Agency.
 
1-1/4 x 1-1/4 triangular chip near front bottom spine edge and a smaller one at the bottom, with a large front bottom corner crease. And a new piece of archival tape at the spine edge. Inside spine covering partially re-glued. Text block secure though just slightly shaken with age and unmarked. Fair condition.
