Verdun is a small city in northeast France, on the banks of the Meuse river. It’s known as the site of the (WWI) Battle of Verdun. Verdun's battlefields are marked by museums and memorials, such as the Douaumont Ossuary, with the remains of more than 100,000 soldiers.
